Members,

We have been working to add facilities in the Dallas and Plano area. We need your survey support as explained in the response Plano Parks sent:

“I am glad to hear that you are having success with your Academy! You have certainly helped us by demonstrating the need for archery in the community and for that reason, we are hopeful that the next round of improvements will include some type of arrangement to accommodate the sport. We do believe that archery has potential in our park system and most likely that is at Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve. We are going to be re-master planning the park beginning this year …

We have a Community Parks survey on our website that I would like to draw your attention to:http://www.plano.gov/Departments/ParksAndRecreation/Pages/default.aspx We are using this tool to gauge interest in a variety of activities. Additionally, there is city wide survey being developed that will be implemented later in the year. It specifically asks people about their interest in archery. Please feel free to let Plano residents know about these opportunities to express their opinions.

We will contact you sometime during the year to meet with our park master plan consultant. We have selected the landscape architect for this job but have not had our preliminary meetings to get a schedule yet. I would anticipate that focus group meetings will be within the next six months as my best guess.

An update on the transition from Texins Archery Club to Texans Archery Club. The majority of details of a transition to the new club status have been completed. You will notice very little difference – outside the name change and increased membership benefits!

Bob Barnette has passed the torch to Clint Montgomery (or back, if you know our history). Under the new status, TAC is a division of Texas Archery Academy, a non-profit 501 (c) (3). The club membership has been growing exponentially… averaging three new members per day!

We are working on improving existing facilities and adding new outdoor venues for you to enjoy. Members needing to renew, or needing 2012 membership cards, please stop by Texas Archery Academy at 600 Accent Dr. Plano, TX between the hours of 11am – 7pm, Tuesday thru Sunday. Our online payment via Paypal will be working shortly.

UPDATE: MAIN RANGE IS NOW OPEN TUESDAY – SUNDAY, 11am – 7pm. SHOOTERS CLUB IS OPEN 24X7!

Below is the recent press release from Texas Archery Academy (TXAA), founded by Texins members Clint Montgomery and Tony Fontana…..Texins Archery Club has arranged for our members to have access to the TXAA indoor Archery Training Center in Plano. So now we will have not only our fantastic outdoor range at Elm Fork Shooting Park, but we will also be able to use this great indoor facility in Plano!

Press Release from TexasArcheryAcademy.org

Executive Directors: Tony Fontana and Clint Montgomery (214-827-7000)

The rumors are true! There is a new INDOOR archery range opening in Plano.

Texas Archery Academy (TXAA) will be opening a State Archery Training Center in May 2011 at 600B Accent Drive Plano, TX 75075. This is next to the PGA TOUR Superstore at the southwest corner of I-75 and Plano Parkway.

The TXAA Training Center will open in phases, with the 24×7 TRUGLO Shooters Club opening in May, and the main facility opening for the public to enjoy in June. Center Memberships will include full use of the Plano Training Center AND the outdoor ranges of Texins Archery Club (www.DallasArchery.com) located at Elm Fork Shooting Park in Dallas!!!

The 30,000 square foot indoor training facility will be available all year to the public at $10/day, and will also offer several levels of Membership that allow extended hours and discounts for frequent usage. A variety of archery equipment will be available (in most cases without cost) for instructional programs and casual public use.

The facility is tailored to archers of all skill levels, from the curious “never held a bow before” novice, all the way to the Olympic athlete. Programs for all levels will be offered by Certified Instructors in a facility with state-of-the-art amenities for developing the skills and discipline of archery!

Archery instruction/classes, individual/team coaching, team training, and public recreational use (safe-practice) are the primary goal of the TXAA Training Center. Support of the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP)/Outdoor Adventures program, after-school training/Archery PE elective, After-NASP Programs, and recreational competitions will be the other activities of focus. A flexible, modular design accommodates daily usage by all levels and ages. It can be reconfigured to host 1000+ competitor tournaments!

Dedicated range areas will allow Intro to Archery classes, personal and team coaching, separate youth class instruction and after-school programs, and family recreational shooting at a variety of targets (i.e. stationary, multi-distance, moving 3D system, and video archery games). Amenities provide for full classroom instruction with adjacent instruction range featuring video analysis, a family lounge, bathrooms, and vending. A full-service archery pro shop and service technician (subcontractor) is also anticipated. The 24×7 TRUGLO Shooters Club, partitioned within the Center, will be available with its own dedicated access.

Please review the schedule below for Membership levels and then email clint@TexasArcheryAcademy.org for a tour appointment or arrange membership.

Range Hours
Range Hours for TAC Members and their Guests (note that these differ slightly from the hours for the Elm Fork Shotgun/Rifle/Pistol ranges and pro shops):
Monday Closed
Tuesday Closed
Wed - Fri noon – 5pm
Sat & Sun 9am – 5pm

Currently, the public are invited to our Plano indoor range, we have suspended public access during the winter.

MARCH 1ST….The Elm Fork archery range will be reopened to the public during ALL operating hours. The public and all shooters/members will be required to check-in at the Shotgun Pro Shop before accessing the range. Members will show TAC ID for free access, the public (includes guests of member) will pay a $10 range fee – a range ID wristband will be issued to you and must be worn while on range. Elm Fork Marshal will ask violators to leave!

Note: Loaner equipment is available to members at no extra charge, as available in the shed. Public may rent equipment for $10 at the Elm Fork Shotgun Pro Shop. Damage Policy: A charge of $3 per arrow lost or not-shootable will be due upon return.

The public are asked to read the range safety rules and range certify at 10 yards (5 of 6 arrows hit 12″ target) on our Form Wall before shooting at the other ranges. Children should be with parent at all times! There is a Kid’s Range within the Practice Range, in addition to developing their skills at the Form Wall. Basic instruction is available through visual displays posted on the Instruction Range or during a scheduled Intro to Archery Class.

Parking

Parking is restricted to the Shotgun Sports parking lot. If you would like to rent a golf cart, these are checked out at the Shotgun Pro Shop.

If you have a Handicapped vehicle license you may park at the loading area next to the Practice Range (during the weekdays, too busy on weekend days).

If you have a lot of gear or supplies for a project or event, you may drive to the Practice Range area and drop them off. Then you will need to move your vehicle to the parking lot. There is a lot of golf cart and ATV traffic on the path to the archery area, and its safer for everyone if traffic from full-size vehicles is minimized.

Bathrooms

The Shotgun Sports Clubhouse has real restrooms and a changing/shower room that you are welcome to use. There is a porta-potty in the archery area as well.
