Instruction & Activities

We offer several ways to begin exploring archery (for further illustrations visit our "images" gallery).


1) Intro to Archery

   Every Saturday, 10:00 - 11:30am.  The perfect way to experience archery. All equipment is included in your $10 (cash only) fee, or you may bring your own. Includes a brief discussion of history. safety and equipment. Demonstrates different styles of shooting and illustrates ways of enjoying archery.Your instructor then supervises you actually shooting! You are guided through the fun of picking up a bow for the first time (or in a long time), and leave with the confidence of having a well rounded introduction, and the resources to explore the sport further. Instruction features INSTINCTIVE style of shooting. You will quickly be able to hit what you can see! No reservations needed for groups under 10 people, minimum age 8 years. Open to the general public, and costs $10 per person. Check in 15 minutes early at the Practice Range to register and pay class fee (cash only). We try to limit class to the first 12 shooters. If an overflow of participants, we may hold a second class from 11:30 to 1pm. Club requires that parents remain at the range during the seminar for children under the age of sixteen in attendance. 2) JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) Clinics sponsored by PSE, Mathews, and TruGlo. Texins JOAD Club is open to students ages 10 to 18.  This program is designed as an ongoing supervised JOAD Team training session. Certified instructors and/or the Coach works with the students on USA Archery B.E.S.T Shooting form in an effort to build consistency, proficiency, and confidence. Sessions are scheduled for Sunday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm (except Holidays) for Team practice. All equipment is supplied by the Club, but team members may bring your own as well as approved by the Coach.  Parents must remain at the range during the sessions for anyone under the age of sixteen, and may find it fun to also participate. For new archery students, we hold JOAD Training classes.  These classes are scheduled as needed and teach archery skills to assist in developing a solid archery foundation.  Over 6 sessions the new archery student will learn range safety rules, range etiquette, and drills for each step in shot execution. Once training has been completed, students may join the JOAD team.  The team meets weekly to practice their drills and skills and receive instruction while shooting. 

 

The Texins Elite JOAD Team is for serious archery student contenders that want to focus on competitive archery.  Membership in the Elite Team is based on skill achievement and by invitation from other Elite Team members and the Team Coach.

3) Quarterly Club sponsored Seminars/Field Trips:

 Seminars include: Intro to Bowhunting, Bowhunting Safety Course, Level I & II Instructor Courses, etc. Trips are normally club organized hunts which include deer, hog, bowfishing, and bird. 


4) Private Instruction in a selection of archery styles: 


 

JOAD/FITA style - NAA - Certified Instruction and Coaching: - Rate $25.00/hour for instruction - by appointment only, email to schedule. JOAD Coordinator: Tony Fontana 


INSTINCTIVE style - Instruction features INSTINCTIVE style of shooting, using "swing-draw" method. You will quickly be able to hit what you can see! Rate $25.00/ hour (two hour minimum) for a private lesson, $10 more for additional shooters, all equipment is provided - by appointment only, email Clint Montgomery to schedule. 

FREESTYLE -  Want to get that new compound bow tuned in? Problems with your shooting form? Get ready for that elk hunt or get over target panic?Barry Warren Rate $25.00/ hour (two hour minimum) for a private lessons, $10 more for an additional shooter.

 For competitive training, certified coach Rodge Kuhl can help with your preparation to shoot ASA, NAA/TFAA tournaments. A Hoyt and Outdoor Pro Shop staff shooter and national competitor in 3D, Field and FITA tournaments, he can assist you with equipment, form and training necessary to become an elite shooter. 5) League/Tournament Shoots

League shoots will begin in July 2010 (Wednesday evenings - watch our homepage for link with details) and Club Tournament Shoots are posted on our Calendar. We promote field archery, 3D, and FITA tournaments. The tournament fees are normally $5.00 for Youth and Cub under 14, $10.00 for all other classes ( except for FITA and NFAA sanctioned shoots are $15.00 for all). 6) Group Event Shoots (Youth & Adult).  Email info@dallasarchery.com for information.

 Our club does host events such as Birthday parties (ages 8 and up),

and groups such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Indian Guides (Y-Guides) and Indian Princesses (Y-Princesses). We have lots of adult archery introduction classes also. Cost is $10.00 per shooter (age 10 and up) and $25.00 per instructor/hour (2 hour minimum). We try to maintain a ratio of one instructor for every twelve shooters. These fees can be offset by service work performed by the group. 

 Our instructors are qualified for Boy Scout merit badge counseling (see BSA - for archery merit badge requirements). We offer a Saturday (9am to noon) merit badge seminar (by appointment) at our range for scout troops (minimum of 6 scouts) that want to pass a class of scouts through the entire requirements. The cost is $75 per instructor (one instructor per 12 scouts), and $10 per scout. The scout fee can be offset by service work. All equipment is provided. The scout is required to have read the merit badge pamphlet in advance, and have parent's signature as evidence of completion of work. To schedule a seminar contact info@dallasarchery.com.
 We also host off-property events/fundraisers for your group. Choose between Intro to Archery format featuring balloons, a thirty target 3D tournament (alligator to dinosaur), or ... Cost begins at $250. Contact President to explore details.


7) Community Programs  

NASP (National Archery is the Schools Program). We supply facilities, equipment, and instructors to schools interested in teaching archery. This program is sponsored by Texas Parks & Wildlife.
